If you aren’t using your iPhone 12 for a while, or you’re on a long trip and want to save battery life, shutting it down can be an effective way to avoid running out of juice.

Newer iPhone models omit the Home button, which means you’ll need to learn how to turn off your device manually. Fortunately, there are a few ways to do it.

Press and hold the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons

There are a few different ways to turn off an iPhone 12 max, but one of the easiest is using the buttons. There are two Volume buttons on the left side of the device, and a Side button on the right.

In addition to being used for volume adjustments, these buttons can also be programmed into shortcuts that can perform other tasks. For example, you can set a shortcut to launch an app when you press the volume up button or to start a video when you press the volume down button.

When a shortcut is activated, the phone takes your current volume level, converts it to a number, and then shows you a notification that explains what pressing one of the buttons will do. Then, it waits five seconds to give you time to read the notification and press a button.

For example, you could use this shortcut to open an app, pause or play a video, or take a photo. You could also create another shortcut that enables you to access a specific function, like dialing 911 or launching the Emergency SOS screen.

To turn off an iPhone with the buttons, first press and hold the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons together for about 2 – 3 seconds until you see a Power Off slider appear on the screen. After that, release the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons and slide the Power Off slider to shut down the device.

If you’d rather not use the hardware buttons on an iPhone 12, you can always turn off the device by performing a soft reset, which will wipe all the data from your iPhone and restore it to its original state. This is a great option if you have a lot of apps or settings that you don’t want to lose.

Press and hold the Side button

The new iPhones don’t have the Home button, so they use a combination of buttons to perform many functions. That includes pressing a button to force restart your phone, enter recovery mode and DFU mode, and more.

There’s also a hidden software button you can use to turn off your iPhone, which is handy if your device is unresponsive or freezing up. But you have to know how to use the correct button combinations, which can be tricky since Apple has changed the way its buttons work.

One button combo that can be used to turn off an iPhone 12 max is to press and hold the Side button until the Power Off slider appears. It may take a second or two to get this screen, but it’s worth it for when your smartphone is glitchy or an app won’t launch.

Another way to quickly shut down your iPhone is to go into the Settings app and tap General. Then, scroll down to the bottom of the menu and tap Shut Down.

This method doesn’t do a great job of turning off your iPhone, but it’s useful for soft restarting the device. It can be especially helpful if you’re trying to troubleshoot an issue and don’t have access to a computer or a tablet.

You can also use the same button combination to activate Emergency SOS, which will send an emergency call to your contacts if your smartphone is lost or stolen. It’s important to note, however, that you should press and hold the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons before you use the Side button to trigger this feature.

You can also use the same button combination to trigger the Medical ID and Emergency SOS screens, which will alert your contacts if you’re in danger. This is an option that’s worth exploring, but it does pose a risk of accidentally activating your emergency dial.

Slide the Power Off slider

If you’ve got an iPhone 12 max and you’re having trouble turning it off, there are a few things that you can do to try and get it working again. First, you can update the software on your device to make sure it’s running the latest version.

If your device is frozen or unresponsive, you can force it to restart. This can be done using a button combination or by going through Settings.

This can be a quick fix if your device isn’t responding to the Slide to Power Off slider and it can help you save time. Just hold down the Side button for a few seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

Another option is to hard reset your iPhone. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, hard restarting it can be a quick fix for most problems.

You can do this by pressing and holding the Side button along with the Volume Up or Volume Down buttons for about 2 – 3 seconds until you see the Power Off slider appear on the screen.

A side-button-pressing-based method is a bit more complicated than dragging the slider on the screen, but it’s still a fast way to turn your device off without a touchscreen. In fact, it’s probably faster than navigating through the Settings app to turn your device off.

The only downside to this method is that it’s not as convenient as a traditional slide-to-power-off process. This is because the Side button now brings Siri instead of a Slide to power off slider, so it’s not as easy to know which one to tap when you want to shut your device down.

Regardless of which method you choose to use, be sure that you don’t press and hold the Side button too quickly or you may accidentally take a screenshot of your iPhone’s screen instead of turning it off.

If you’ve tried all the methods above and your iPhone is still stuck on the slide to power off screen, there’s a good chance that it’s time to send it off for repair. If your iPhone is still under warranty, you can get it fixed for free at an Apple Store.

Wait for the Apple logo to appear

There are several reasons why your iPhone 12 max may become stuck in the Apple logo screen, but the most common one is because there’s a problem with the iOS system software. This could be a result of an iOS update, restore, or data transfer from a computer to your device that causes software corruption.

When an issue like this happens, it’s a good idea to try troubleshooting your device as quickly as possible to find a solution. This can help you fix the problem before it gets worse and causes more damage.

The first thing to try is restarting your iPhone. This will give your phone a fresh start, disabling the software that’s causing the problem.

If the simple restart method doesn’t work, you can try force-restarting your phone. This will wipe out all your data and settings from the device, but it will also reboot it and remove any glitches in the software program.

Another option is to put your iPhone into recovery mode. This will help you troubleshoot the software glitches that are causing your iPhone to become stuck in the Apple logo screen.

To do this, connect your iPhone to your computer via a USB cable and launch iTunes. Follow the prompts on your computer to enter recovery mode for your device model.

Once your iPhone is in recovery mode, you can then use it to download and install iOS updates or other software fixes. This is a quick and easy way to repair your iPhone without having to contact Apple support.
